Bayfield Bespoke prescribe traditional sash windows
Sash windows from the Bygone Collection and a refurbished front door were what the doctor ordered from window and door experts, Bayfield Bespoke.
Dr. & Dr. Walukiewicz in Sale, Manchester, assigned Bayfield Bespoke to replace the traditional sash windows in the two children’s bedrooms and the bathroom in addition to restoring their front door to its former glory.
Taking advantage of the professional supply and fit service from Bayfield Bespoke, Dr. Walukiewicz commented, “The workmanship was brilliant and they’re the tidiest fitters I’ve ever seen – they even vacuumed up before leaving!”
The sash windows were selected in white woodgrain effect PVC-u for all three rooms, each fitted with chrome ironmongery for a modern finish. “The new windows look just like the timber windows in the rest of the house. The bathroom window is especially impressive as we were worried about losing the original stained glass but Bayfield Bespoke re-fitted it in the new window,” Dr. Walukiewicz added.
Not only do Bygone PVC-u sash windows look authentic with their integrated continuous horns and deep bottom rail but, due to developments in material technolgy, also benefit from eliminating draughts and maintenance problems that the original timber sash windows became infamous for, as Dr. Walukiewicz found to her delight, “We’re really pleased that they don’t require any maintenance as they’re hard to reach being located at such a great height. We’re having the attic room window done next.”
Modern technology also means that security, safety and energy efficiency are not compromised. Bygone sash windows pass British Standard BS7950 and achieve the Secured by Design endorsement. Amongst other safety features, all windows have Limit Stops to prevent the window opening beyond 100mm, particularly important in children’s rooms. Always doubleglazed, the windows are B rated and have low iron glass on the outside and soft coat Low-E glass inside. Combined with argon or krypton gas filled sealed units, energy loss is kept to a bare minimum.
Next on the agenda was the refurbishment of the original timber front door. A complete and thorough job from start to finish, Bayfield Bespoke restored the door to its former glory by taking it back to bare wood by hand stripping it, then filling, repairing, treating and spraying the door. New furniture was fitted along with the original stained glass panels. Re-hung with new hinges, the finished result is beautiful both inside and out.
