Bayfield Gold Bi-folding doors
make a dramatic difference.
Bayfield Gold bi-folding doors have made a dramatic difference to the living space of a 1930s semi-detached family home in Timperley.
The homeowners sought expert advice from Bayfield Bespoke before finalising their choice.
“We wanted a set of cost effective bi-folding doors and were originally planning on having PVC-u ones. However, Bayfield Bespoke advised that PVC-u was unsuitable for a large area such as ours due to the amount of expansion and contraction that can occur in the material due to extremes in temperature, leaving a gap – which could be between 10mm and 15mm over the five doors! They recommended aluminium as a preferred alternative in terms of durability and weather resistance. We are delighted with the Bayfield Gold set that we opted for - it looks great and didn’t break the bank!”
To make the most of the 5m (w) x 2m (h) opening, the five panels installed open out onto a decking area. Looking from the outside in, the centre panel is a traffic door that is attached to the two left hand panels, whilst the remaining two panels open to the right, creating a wind break from both sides of the opening.
Selected in white (RAL 9016) with matching furniture to harmonise with the neutral decor and provide a classic look that won’t date, the bi-folding doors allow the family to enjoy the view of the garden from the comfort of their sofa when closed and create an open plan living area when open. In addition, the central traffic door permits convenient access to the garden without having to open the full set of doors.
With young children around, the doors were flush-fitted between the tiled living room floor and the external decking to avoid trip accidents. For additional security and peace of mind, the tracking system is strong and secure with concealed running gear, and the doors are fitted with high security hinges, a multi-point locking system and internally beaded glazing to provide protection against potential intruders.
The powder coated aluminium frames offer a low maintenance solution whilst being thermally broken to keep the cold out and prevent the build of up condensation. The system is also fitted with energy efficient double glazed units with Low-E glass to ensure minimal heat loss and save money for the homeowners.
